This is an antique papier mache circular snuff box in typical form... curved sides matching top and bottom with a goldy coloured interior.. it has been used as there is wear on the inside as well as the base.It is a dark scene type... showing an old man hunched over a table, wearing a red cloak coat with a large green hat.... hes wearing spectacles and has a grey beard and slight traces of grey hair near the ears......hes holding a bag of coins in his right hand.... and holding a gold coin in his left... 4 piles of gold coins in front of him on the table, 2 more pots or bags of money in the foreground... with a piece of paper with wording..... to the left of the picture is what looks like two larger gold coins.. if you LOOK carefully you will see these are attached to an iron bar.. these are the GOLD COIN WEIGHING SCALES ... a book can be seen far left front and a dark doorway behind.. its a very dim lit portrait of THE TAX COLLECTOR or GOLD WEIGHER after Salomon Koninck ... he was a Dutch painter 1609 - 1656.He will be weighing the gold coins to make sure they have not been CLIPPED etc...as the coins of the period were Hammered ..between dies..and were easy clipped off to create a new coin with all the clippings eventually.. they did this with silver coins too. Anyway .. it is not signed.. and its probably an 18-19th Century snuff box.. the glaze is slightly crazed.. it has no serious issues ...but of course has been used and does have edge knocks and rubs etc... please see the photographs. The box is 10.5cm dia x nearly 2cm deep..
