Wonderful Antique American Blacksmith Made Late 18th Century Wrought Iron Pipe Kiln ! with Nice Penny Foot Construction Truly the best example of a period 18th century American pipe kiln; just an outstanding piece of early wrought iron, Circa 1770-1800. A pipe kiln such as this would have been placed at the base of an op...en hearth fireplace to dry out or fire long clay tobacco pipes. As such pipe kilns were often seen in taven and public houses, as well as homes of priviledge. This is a great design on this example of early Blacksmithing work with the fact the piece has a center open cage design, allowing the user to reach in to grab a pipe. Take a moment to view the provided pictures and you'll see you can see the great period blacksmith construction and original condition. Note the four great 'penny' feet, and a center top hanging loop that would allow the piece to be carried or even hung off a fireplace crane. Measures approximately 11 1/4" in length and stands 8" tall. Some slight and pitting and oxidation as one would expect from age, overall in very good condition.
A wonderful opportunity to add a nice example of a period pipe kiln to your home or hearth collection! Offered on a FIVE day auction with no reserve.
