Native Gold and Melonite after CalaveriteCresson Mine, Cripple Creek District, Teller Co., Colorado, USA1.8cm x 1.2cm x 1cm
Description/Interesting Notes: A rich, old time example of native gold and melonite replacing calaverite from this historic Colorado locale!!! Usually these rare specimens are found as tiny flakes, however this specimen is quite rich and robust!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of crystalline calaverite that... has been partially replaced by native gold with melonite!!! Upon close study there is a significant showing of native gold and there are also some areas that host a very thin, translucent layer of what appears to be chalcedony or similar material!!! Simply an incredible example of this rare material!!! This material likely dates back to the 1920's!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
