My grandfather, from Slayton, Minnesota, attended one or both of the games 3 & 4 in St. Louis because his friend from Slayton, George Pipgras, pitched for the Yankees (although Pipgras’ start was game 2 in New York, ...and the Yanks won the series in 4.) I believe the penciled math in the upper right cover are my grampa‘ s budget figures for the trip...$20 total for train, hotel, game(s) meals, et al.
The Cards team included Grover Cleveland Alexander and Pepper Martin. And while the ‘28 Yankees included seven OTHER future Hall-of-Famers, it was the two greatest Yankees, Ruth & Gehrig, who dominated this series. Imagine a single team having NINE HALL OF FAMERS at once. The 1927 team, just the previous year, is considered the single greatest team in baseball history. Most of them remained in 1928, making this program all the more historic, valuable, collectible!!!
Condition: “Fair” >>>Please take a close look at all the pictures. I have not included all of the inside pages but most of them. The 4 or so pages not pictured are in the same condition as those pictured. All of the inside pages are of the same condition, pretty good. Looking at the front cover you will see penciled figures on both the upper right (more visible) and upper left. While these do subtract from the quality of condition, they are not overly dark/visible. There are also some light stains on the cover. On the left center edge/“spine” there is a 3/4 inch rip that goes through the entire program but does not hinder page turning, nor has the rip run any further. The overall integrity of the item is surprisingly good for 91 years old. The innermost folded page HAS come loose from the staples but it is in place...the rest has held together well.
