Original Description:
A wonderful, rare British studio art pottery hand decorated figurine of a mother and child in colorful attire. Signed on underside with cojoined CV (for Charles Vyse) and Chelsea 1923. Size: 9.5" tall, base is 3" x 3.25". This fine piece is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. NOTE: Charles Vyse was born in Staffordshire in 1882, and was a key figure in the development of British studio pottery. At the age of 14 he was apprenticed to the Doulton factory as a designer. Attended... Hanley Art School where he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art where he studied sculpture from 1905 to 1910. In 1911 he was elected as a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors.
