Vintage Jukes Coulson Hudson Bay Company Beavertail Trade DAG Knife
You are bidding on an Indian trade knife of the style popularly known as a Hudson Bay Company Beavertail. This trade knife is marked Jukes Coulson, Sheffield. This knife style was a popular trade item with the Hudson Bay Company (HBC) during their heyday.
Jukes and Coulson, a cutlery firm out of Sheffield, manufactured these knive...s for HBC during the middle 19th century. This type is known by various names, including "Hand Dague", Dag Knives, Paddle Handle Dagger or Beavertail dagger. Overall length of the remaining knife is 10-1/4 inches, with 7 inches of it being blade (from the tip to where the tang starts). It is 2-1/4 inches at its widest.
Overall shape is as-found”, in near relic condition (as is evident from the photos). The tip of the blade is broken off and it is heavily rust pitted throughout. No attempt have been made to restore or clean the blade in order to maintain its artifact status.
