ICONIC VINTAGE 1960’s ISAMU NOGUCHI AKARI Bamboo/cast iron floor lamp base. I was told by a helpful and knowledgeable collector that the model is 43L, but have been unable to find a second reference (happy to hear from anyone who might know). The lamp’s bamboo stem is in good condition, with no cracks or breaks. The cast iron base has, by design, a slightly rough, pitted surface. The fixture is working, but the chain switch is fixed in ‘on’ position. I believe the Lamp base is ...designed to accommodate a number of different Akari Light Sculpture shades, but don’t know which models this might include. The lamp base will need to be disassembled for shipping purposes, and reassembled by buyer. It appears to be constructed such that this is fairly simple. The bamboo stem consists of 3 pieces, which fit together like a fly rod. The harp can be removed. The lightbulb I’ll leave to you to replace.Measurements:Total height including Harp: 77”Harp: 13 1/2”floor to top of fixture: 64 1/2”Cast Iron Base: Diameter- 6”-, Height- 4”Cord: 9’4” The item is from the Estate of an Art Professor, b. 1927, who was an Akari dealer in the 1960’s. It has been in climate controlled storage for many years. While this lamp appears to be in overall good condition, I do not know the item’s history or the effects of time or the Pennsylvania climate upon the materials used in its construction.
