This antique Chinese blue silk gold couching embroidered roundels cloud collar robe dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is made of a sky blue color silk damask weave fabric with a woven medallion design, colorful raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work ...butterflies, flowers, pomegranates outlined in gold thread couching, with large roundels gold couching embroidered characters labyrinth meandering ornamental designs to bring good luck and guard against misfortune. There are green woven cut silk fabric sleeve band cuffs with gold couching Chinese character swastika design meaning ten thousand, longevity, with colorful hand embroidered, forbidden stitch peony flowers and butterflies. This beautiful blue long surcoat style robe is loose fitting, with long full flared wide sleeves, white silk colorful figural embroidered gold couching trim edging, side vents, cloud collar, yellow silk knotted toggle closures down the front and is fully lined in a dark blue silk damask weave fabric. The robe measures 44 inches long, with a 46 inch chest, 46 inch waist and 46 inch hips. It is in fair as-is condition, has not been cleaned with several stains on the front, fade discoloration in areas, some loose missing gold thread couching and frayed broken loop toggles on the front closure (see close-ups). This is truly a wonderful piece of Chinese wearable art!
