This rare photo (8 by 10) is from an NBA pre-season exhibition game Oct. 15, 1959 between the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia Warriors.
It was the very FIRST professional meeting between rookie Wilt (The Stilt) Chamberlain and Bill Russell. The Celtics won this exhibition game.
Wilt played in his FIRST official NBA game nine days later on Oct. 24, 1959 scoring 43 points as a rookie while defeating the NY Knicks.
Wilt's first official NBA game against Russell and the Celtic...s was on Nov. 7, 1959 when he outscored Russell 30-22, but his team once again lost the game.
