I have here for sale a 2 volume set entitled A DICTIONARY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE in which the Words are deduced from their Originals, explained in their Different Meanings, and Authorized by the Names of the Writers in whose Works they are found, abstracted from the Folio Edition by Samuel Johnson, to which is prefixed a Grammar of the English Language, Vols I and II. Both published by J Knapton et al, Vol I in 1756 being the First Quarto abridged, and Vol II in 1760 being the S...econd Corrected Quarto abridged. Vol I - A-K; Vol II L-Z.Vol I is full leather with 5 gilt raised bands to the spine and a dark red leather title block and gilt lettering. Vol II has been rebound in full calf leather with 5 gilt raised bands, matching dark red leather title block and gilt lettering as well as the volume number stamped in gilt. Vol I has cracked hinges and wear to the edges, chunks of leather missing from front board (lower right corner) and rear board (lower left corner), but overall is in very good condition; Vol II is in very good/fine condition, having been sympathetically restored.
