The original 1938 publication of this book (by Routledge) wasstopped in England due to the sexual subject matter (most copies were seizedand only a few are known to have survived); the (French, but English-language) Obeliskpaperback edition, published in Paris, followed in June 1938, and this, theAmerican first edition, in hardback, in the same year.Allis not what it seems, however. The book was not written by a working girl atall. It was, in fact, written by Ronald Matthews, together with a bit of inputfrom his drinking buddy Graham Greene (whose level of involvement is unclearand disputed - he probably contributed some passages, and suggested someimprovements). Certainly Greene hung out in seedy parts of Londonwith Matthews and went on pub crawls with him.Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask, and please take a look at myother rare & collectable books for sale.Postage is £9.50 within UK(Royal Mail 1pm Special Delivery).
