RARE late (near-production) prototype Apple Interactive Television Box (AITB / STB). US/NTSC version. It is my understanding that only a few thousand of these made it out to test markets in the US & Britain before the project was cancelled, and the completed units were never “officially” brought to market or produced.
PLEASE do your research as to the history & use of this machine before bidding!
It is in excellent physical condition with no cracked or brittle plastic.... As far as I can tell, all internal components are present, including the ROM SIMM, memory, and 68LC040 processor. There is a connector for a floppy drive, but AFAIK one was never installed in these. This machine does not have a fan although there’s a spot for it. Please see the photos which show in detail exactly what is inside & the condition of everything.
I’ve tried powering it on but was unable to get anything to display using the composite video out. It is my understanding that this is normal behaviour for these, without access to the central servers. You can find accounts of some users who’ve managed to get them to boot from external SCSI drives but I never tried to get any further with it. Thus it is being sold AS-IS, FOR PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY. I can offer no guarantees as to its functionality.
NOTE: the barrel battery HAS BEEN REMOVED and didn't show any signs of corrosion. The plastic holder is still pristine. It was a standard 3.6V lithium battery, same as those found in any other Mac of the era.
The HDI30 external SCSI cable IS INCLUDED.
I charge actual shipping cost with insurance & tracking. I have packed this item EXTREMELY ROBUSTLY, in a solid thick-walled box with extra crush protection, tightly surrounded by industrial-style (large-pore) bubble wrap & packing paper. The AITB itself is in a sleeve originally used for shipping laptops. I do NOT waste your time & money with shoddy packaging that results in damaged items! Bid with confidence!
