Hobbs of Malmsbury. London, Printed for Matt. Gilliflower, Henry Rogers, Booksellers in Westminster Hall, and Tho. Fox next theFleece Tavern in Fleetstreet, and at the Angel inWestminster - Hall MDCLXXXIV (1684) It measures approx 17.2cm x 11.8cm x 2cm. The volume has been rebound at sometime, in half leather with cloth boards. As can be seen from the images, the volume is rather worn. The front board is almost detached, it is held only delicately and crudely by a little adhesive, where there appears to have been an earlier attempt to reattach it. The rear hinge has also been crudely glued in this way, but remains a little firmer. The spine covering is heavily chipped with loss and headbands missing. The boards are bumped, chipped and grubby. Internally, the front free endpaper is lacking, and the front blanks have been restuck at the inner edge and now torn, where attached to board, see images closely. There are marbled endpapers to the front and rear. There is an ink note to the verso of the front blank opposite title. There is a cropped previous owner's name to the fore edge of the red ruled title page and sub-title page. There are a number of ink and pencil annotations, notes and markings to margins, scattered throughout, a coupe of which are quite extensive. There is a pale stain to the bottom margins of a couple of sections, and the top margins of a small section. There is some light toning, a little scattered foxing and the odd light mark or spot. The last leaf of text has a small chip to the bottom corner. Text reasonable and readable throughout. [14], 317, [3] p. General title is ruled in red. Each discourse has a separate dated title page. A scarce, early edition, of this collection works of philosophy by Thomas Hobbes.
