Be thou faithful unto deathAnd I will give thee a crown of life*******I was glad when they said unto me Let us ...go into the hou(s)e of the Lord
The lower section of the linen is stitched with an impressive two storey red house with a blue doorstep and roof. There is a fruit tree on either side of the house with a bird perched on top, each with Elizabeth's name above them. The trees have a lawned area beneath them with a gated fence running across the ground in front. The whole piece is then surrounded by an arcaded carnation border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker around the edges. The sampler is behind glass so I'm not able to see the reverse, but the colours of the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. The sampler is contained within a dark wood frame with gilt slip, possibly its original. The frame has a small loss on the top left corner, a smaller one on the bottom edge and some scratches and scuff marks commensurate with its age. Measures 12 1/4" x 17 1/4" (sight size) and 16" x 21" including the frame.
PLEASE NOTE - ANY MARKS ETC ON THE PHOTOGRAPHS WHICH I'VE NOT ALREADY MENTIONED ARE FROM THE GLARE AND REFLECTION OF THE GLASS AND NOT ON THE SAMPLER ITSELF.
