~ Colorfully Painted Birds and Tiny Flower Encrusted Bocage ~ Chelsea Gold Anchor Mark ~
~*~9 1/2” tall ~ widest part of bocage is about 4 3/4” wide
A pair of lovely, very colorfully enamel painted candlesticks with four bird...s on baroque footed bases with large leafy flower encrusted bocage.
The two larger birds are beautifully painted and seem free of damage except for their repaired beaks. The two smaller birds sitting on the bases look perfect and free of damage. There are numerous small losses to the flowers and leaves. The tops of the candlesticks have some old repairs but none of the touch ups are noticeable at an arms length. These candlesticks display beautifully on a mantle or side board.
I’ve included 12 close up pictures, please look at all to see the lovely details as well as the parts that show repair or touch ups.
These candlesticks are hard paste copies made in the 18th century style of Chelsea's gold anchor period. They were produced by the great Paris imitator, Edme Samson, whose pieces have become celebrated and collected in their own right. Samson's 19th century workshop created many copies of 18th century British porcelain as well as Meissen, Sevres, and Chinese Exports. ~ Sold in as found condition described above but still in very nice decorative display condition.
Please see all the photos and close up photos to add to the condition report. ~
