Antique Kentucky Belle Bourbon Jug, Strader, Rare Find,
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:6852763 | Age: Unknown |
This jug stands approximately 8 1/2" inches high, and weighs about 2 pounds. Empty, of course.
The embossed image says, "Kentucky Belle Hand-Made Sour Mash / Eight Years Old / Bourbon / Bottled at the Distillery / Anderson Co KY"
All of the embossing is in superb condition, with no voids and no discernible wear. The glaze has the expected crazing due to age, but there are no voids in the glaze. There are a couple of small inclusions on the jug -- I'm not qualified to remove them. There are a few pits in the stoneware, but those appear to be original to the crockware, and are not the result of damage. There is one small "chip" near the base that I was going to call out, but since there is glaze on the chip, I believe that this is not damaged, but that it is a feature of the original piece. Basically it looks like whoever fired the jugs was a bit rough, but those were earlier days.
Please feel free to ask any questions on this beautiful piece of history. I'll do what I can to answer any questions related to the piece itself. In the meantime, good luck to you.
