1 x VERY RARE & UNIQUE Vintage Black & White WWII Photo Album - An amazing collection of historic views of WWII showing the Allies landing on D-Day, the liberation of Greece, wounded Allied and German soldiers, various crew shots on Royal Canadian Navy ships, Allied fleets, Allied soldiers from Canada, USA, Britain, France, Africa and much more.
- This album was compiled by former Petty Officer E. Crabbe (RCN) and the photos are stamped "Royal Canadian Naval Photograph,... Crown Copyright Reserved." and are dated as printed in 1945.- The majority of photos appear to have been from the RCN Photographer of the HMCS Prince David (F-89) and appear to follow the ship's voyage to the European theater in June 1944, landing at Juno beach on D-Day and subsequent operations in Italy (Operation Dragoon), France (Operation Romeo) and the liberation of Greece with the return of PM George Papandreou and his government-in-exile.- In addition, the album also shows the mine damage that the Prince David incurred during the events of the Greek Civil War that followed (October 1944) as well as her repair at Ferryville dry-dock in Tunisia (December 1944).- Of historical interest, the HMCS Prince David was one of 3 Canadian National Steamships passenger liners that were converted for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), first to armed merchant cruisers at the beginning of Second World War, then infantry landing ships (medium) or anti-aircraft escort.- Album dimensions: ~ 14" x 11" x 1.75".- Album contains 41 pages and over 300 official RCN photos (~ 4" x 5").- Please note that the album is not complete as 17-18 photos have been removed.- Photos are in good condition; some may have small creases, folds, tears, ripples or other marks.- Also included: 1 loose 8" x 10" B&W Photo of soldiers/crew on the deck of the Prince David (or possibly another allied ship), one 3.5" x 4.5" B&W Photo of the crew celebrating Christmas (mounted on 6" x 8" hardboard) and 1 Vintage Postcard of the Prince David by Gowan-Sutton Co., Vancouver, BC, Canada.
