This is a fantastic very impressive early antique English original black and gold chinoiserie 8 day bell striking london longcase clock with all the features you would like to see from a top quality london grandfather clock. This is a C1690 - 1710 longcase clock by Samual Lee of London all in full working order and all original with dial, movement and case all belonging to each other. Samual Lee is a very well recorded maker and is known for top quality clocks and became part of the clock makers company in 1694 - 1719 with a paper label inside the door stating this also and is also recorded in all the books
The case has a pagoda top design to the sliding removable hood with a hinged glazed door which protects the original brass and silver dial with glass sides and finished by 2 original gilt wood finials to top, the hood with original carved fretwork panels to top with red silk behind them. The case also has a stunning patina and colour to the chinoiserie which can only be acquired through age with its original working lock and key to trunk door The black and gold chinoiserie case has a superb beautiful patina and colour to it which can only be acquired through age and looks very good as i am sure you can see from the pictures. All the chinoiserie decoration looks to be original with only minor losses in places and the usual age discrepencies what you would expect to see and all adds to its authenticity and history The case looks stunning displayed anywhere
The clock benefits from its original 12 inch square brass and silvered dial with engraved roman numerals to the silvered chapter ring. The chapter ring is engraved to the bottom by the maker Sam Lee of London, the centre has engraved subsidary seconds dial and an engraved border to the calendar frame with original early pierced brass spandrels to the corners. The dial is in great original condition with only very minimal age wear
The clock benefits from its original high quality brass 8 day bell striking 5 pillar construction movement with anchor escapement, the movement is of 8 day duration driven by its original 2 brass cased lead weights and brass pendulum, the movement is in full working order keeping time and striking as it should as you can see in the video above with a working calendar mechanism
The mechanism comes with a 6 months return to base warranty for extra piece of mind. If on the rare occasion you receive a clock that has a problem or does not work after initial set up and adjusting by a professional person then we reserve the right for you to return the mechanism for repair by myself
There will be no refunds if the mechanism needs repair. I reserve the right for the mechanism to be returned to me for repair
I offer a 6 months return to base warranty on all my mechanisms (unless stated not working in description)
In case of a problem after a professional has attempted to set the clock up you can return the mechanism back to me for repair
Please do not take the mechanism to a local clock maker/repairer as this will render the warranty void. All repairs needed to the mechanism will be carried out by myself and not by a 3rd party clock maker/repairer unless agreed by myself beforehand. please contact me in the first instance to arrange return of the mechanism for repair by myself
Shipping the mechanism back to me will be at the buyers cost and i will pay to get the mechanism back to you after repair
