Antique BRASS GRAIN ELEVATOR CORE SAMPLE PROBE THIEF 70" Length 12-Opening Very Rare and Very Good Condition for its age.Stamped: Dean Ganet Mfg, Co. Minneapolis, Minn.Plate beneath the stamp says: Burrows Equip. Co., Evanston, Illinois. It has a nice patina - Has not been cleaned. The wooden knob on top has split is not complete, though it is solid and very functional. It turns Freely. Each of the 12 openings has a floor & a ceiling to keep samples separate. The full-l...ength measurement is approximately 70" long.Used where farmers dropped off their grain to be dried, weighed or sold. This tool would be pushed into the grain in your truck or corn crib and when the depth is reached, the knob on top would be turned to open the openings to get a sample then turn the knob again to close them before the probe is raised. The knob gets turned once more to release the grain, then grain from that sample can be tested. The probe has a "sleeve" with a tube inside. Both have 12 openings to gather 12 samples at once. There are markings to indicate when the holes are open or closed so when the rod is down in the grain, you know when the sample is collected and ready to raise. Very interesting and very rare and collectible. This size in particular seems to be very scarce. It is heavy, weighing more than 10 pounds. I will ship best way I can. This will be packaged in a plastic tube for shipping. Of course, local pickup can be arranged. I have listed other items as well. Please feel free to check them out. THANK YOU for your interest.
