What's "THE STORY"?
This KOOLMOTOR OIL is an ORIGINAL sign from 1920-1925 and was authenticated by the curator Dennis Cox of the Return to the 50's Gas Station Museum before it was put on display there. He has personally owned the sign for about 25 years. Mr. Cox was (and still is) an avid gas and oil collector. When his personal collection overran his home, he bought an old gas station along Route 66 in Arizona in the 1990's and created a museum there from his personal collection. This KOOLMOTOR OIL sign IS an authentic sign from 1920-1925 and was displayed in the museum. When Mr. Cox suffered a debilitating stroke in 2005, the museum was closed and the gas station building sold. Most of the collection was kept and stored by Mr. Cox as it was too difficult for him to part with at that time. Mr. Cox collects mostly Shell and Mobil, but has other interesting pieces from other oil and gas companies that he had picked up along the way at Gas Bashes (Turlock, Montana, Iowa), from other collectors, auctions as well as on eBay. These other oil company pieces as well as extras of his favorites and his least favorite pieces have begun to be sold at this time. Mr. Cox receives Petroleum Collectibles Monthly and keeps up on all things petroleum as well as what reproductions are being passed off as originals. This sign is guaranteed to not be a reproduction! If you have been collecting for awhile, you might even know him or met him... Mr. Dennis Cox. He doesn't attend many events, gas bashes, or auctions any more, and he's not able to haggle over a price as persistently as he use to. But he still loves his gas and oil stuff!!
