Fine officer’s sword from the County of Waldeck.Waldeck neighbors the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel, who formed the main partof the German troops that supported the British during the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783).The Waldeck troops sailed from Portsmouth in July 1776 and participatedin the New York campaign. They were integrated into the German auxiliariesunder Hessian General Wilhelm von Knyphausen. The sword here is from an officer of the Waldeckinfantry, the b...lade is etched "FÜRST VON WALDEK 2. REGIMENT". Thehilt is finely carved in rococo style and retains a high share of the originalfire gilding. The sword comes with its original leather scabbard (lower partmissing).
