Jerry Thomas' The Bartenders Guide is the first cocktail book published in America.
I've been checking on these over the years, and side from the purple smudges this is the best overall condition I've come across...as far as front & back cover and 96% of the page...s go. I included a couple outdoor photos to show the True Color of this hardcover.
*Spine in excellent condition
*All the corners are in good condition
*Purple smudges on title, copyright, Preface Pages and the page after...CHECK PHOTOS!
*Small nick in lower left of front cover
*Penny sized minor blemish on front cover on the word "Receipts"
*Small indentation on front cover on the O in "Cobblers"
* His mixing of the "Martinez", which recipe was published in this 1887 edition of his guide, has sometimes been viewed as a precursor to the modern Martini.
*Thomas developed his signature drink, the Blue Blazer, at the El Dorado gambling saloon in San Francisco.
This guide has been in my possession in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 27 years.
