RARE ANTIQUE LACE MAKING PILLOW WITH ENGLISH PROVENANCE - ENID PURVIS
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:653800 |
This is an auction for a VERY RARE and beautiful Antique Lace Making Pillow; FRENCH TYPE PILLOW with all Bone Bobbins and a few Lacemaking Patterns. FAN PATTERN LACE was being made on the pillow at the time of its last use; all threads and bobbin positions are intact and approximately 15" of lace had already been made. The pillow is constructed of sturdy wood, soft packed stuffing (not horse hair or straw), with a dark green canvas exterior.
This is an EXTRAORDINARY find... from the collection of the late lace collector, enthusiast, and lacemaker, ENID PURVIS of England. This pillow was purchased in London and brought to The Lace Museum Detroit where it has been on exhibit until our need to de-access some items and this is, unfortunately, one of the lace making pillows we need to de-access.It is a true and rare piece of lacemaking history and would be a great acquisition for a collector or lacemaker.
The bobbins are bone, however a few of the spangles had shaken loose and would need to be re-attached. Please see the photos of the glass spangles. We believe we have all of the glass spangles that had shaken from approximately four (4) bone bobbins. The bobbins are intact, as well as the structural integrity of the pillow. The pillow, of course, due to its age has browned from both usage and time, however it remains structurally sound.
In order that our items are properly shipped and make it to their intended destination, The Lace Museum Detroit does not charge for shipping or tracking/handling or insurance (this piece will be expensive to properly ship). Please email with any questions as we would like someone to be very happy and proud to acquire this rare and extraordinary piece of lacemaking history. thelacemuseumllc.com
