This lovely doll was created by the late Akira Blount and purchased at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. A masked jester boy wearing a frog mask, his velvet clothing and the artist's exquisite attention to detail make him a work of art rather than just a doll. His arms, legs and head are jointed and he is signed on the foot, dated 1995.
Akira Blount was the president of NIADA (National Institute of American Doll Artists) from 1997-2001 and a true pioneer in th...e dolls-as-art movement. Her works are displayed in many museums around the United States as well as part of the permanent collection of the Louvre (Musée des Arts Decoratif) and the Musée de Poupees in Josselin, France.This hard-to-find treasure would be a lovely addition to any doll art collection.
