Rare Unique Australian Pottery Grace Seccombe Kookaburras on Fence Figural GroupThis figural group was made by arguably Australian foremost figural potters; Grace Seccombe, widely respected for depictions of Australian indigenous animals and birds.Here is one of her hand painted figural groups featuring two kookaburras on fence. It has under-glaze feature painting to the birds and a drip glaze applied to the general areas of the group. There is an inscription that reads “To You, The... Open Sliprails and a waiting Friend’. The artist’s signature, ‘Grace Seccombe’, is embossed is found on the base; a known signing method she used with other throughout her Australian potting career. There is an old collection catalogue sticker to the base that reads “No 3 Grace Seccombe” in handwritten ink. Grace Seccombe (1880-1956 b. England). Following her father’s footsteps, she worked in Burslem, Staffordshire before moving to Australia with her family. After finishing an art course at Sydney Technical College, she married an architect and established a small pottery at their home in Eastwood, Sydney. Her works are highly prized and sought after by aficionados of Australian pottery.The group is in mint condition with no damage fault to report. Its rare for us to classify any item as “Mint”; in this case we cannot find any faults or wear.
