This piece comes from my grandmother's estate, and was found in the 1950s, off the coast of Italy by my cousin, who is a diver. Incredible, delicate, small Roman glass cup with handle (think Demitasse cup) is completely mouthblown, and amazingly thin-walled for a piece of Roman glass. The foot is thick and nearly solid, with a rough pontil on the bottom, and no indication of maker. There is an applied handle, and a lovely applied flower on the front, with 5 applied petals and an applie...d, pebbly center. The glass is a pale cobalt blue, darker where the glass is thicker. Has air bubbles, iridescence, and ocean grunge. I honestly never knew the Romans were as good at glassmaking as they obviously were—and this is a prime example!Unsure of maker.No damage anywhere that I can see; has grunge from being in the ocean for a couple of millennia.
