Original Description:
This exquisite medium-sized silver and pique tortoiseshell capstan inkwell by Henry Matthews has the assay mark for Birmingham 1912. The tortoiseshell lid finely decorated with silver classical designs within a ribbon-tied border. The plain circular spread base with conforming border. The hinged lid opening to reveal an inkwell complete with inner porcelain receptacle.The underside lined with black leather.There has been a repair made by a silversmith to the lid to re-attach it to the ...main body of the inkwell.
