A beautiful example of a Miwok utilitarian basket from the turn of the century. Miwok baskets rarely reach the market. They generally do not have fine weaving or elaborate patterns. What makes them desirable is their rarity and the simplicity of their utilitarian design. This was a functional basket. It was not made to impress anyone or to extract money from well-meaning tourists.
