This is an original Heinrich Handwerck Simon & Halbig light-skinned black character doll. It is signed (incised) by the manufacturer on the back of the head. The only identifying number that I can find on the lower back of the neck is an incised number 2. I bought this doll at an antique doll auction in Laporte, Indiana around the year 1998, and I've had it in a glass case since. The original sleep-eyes became detached about 12 years ago and shattered, and I am selling the do...ll here without those original sleepy-eyes, but I am putting a pair of modern-manufacture 16mm brown fixed-eyes in the package if you choose to install them. Some of the original plaster(?) is sill in the interior of the head around the eye sockets. The body is whole and jointed. I believe she is a young adult character but not sure of her model #. Her hands, feet, arms and legs are good. Her body/torso is very good as well - she has a tummy which makes her appear to be 4-5 months pregnant (see pics.) Her outfit consists of a long, deep-purple jacket, a silk dress, and white underclothes and socks with black shoes. I have loosened her hair to remove the original, shattered eyes so her hair is 'loose' and will need to be re-glued. If you ask, I will add the eyes and re-glue the hair, otherwise, I leave it to you. Corrected height is approximately 18 1/2". Thanks for looking!!
