A rather rare and beautiful tea caddy dating from the second half of the eighteenth century. It is oval in shape and veneered in a dark Brazilian mahogany with lighter strung lines of either box wood or pear wood. The lid and front also have inlaid oval marquetry picture panels.The brass hinges and lock are original.Size: about 5 3/4 inches wide x 4 1/2 inches high. (14.5 x 11.5 cm approx.) Weight: about 274 grammesCondition : looks good but has some faults. The escutcheon is missing ...and the area where it was has been filled with some composite material. There is a section of stringing missing from the edge of the base. There are some cracks in the mahogany veneer. The interior has been stripped of its lining and lids. There is no key. Payments from overseas must be made with paypal unless other arrangements are agreed with me prior to bidding. U.K payments can be made via paypal, personal cheque or postal order.
