Post War "Super Rare" 1956 Lionel Train Set - The Milwaukee Road Desiel 2378. My father purchased this Lionel Train set new in 1956 or early 1957 and he gave it to me about 25 years ago. I set this up a few times with my dad when I was a kid, and again set this up a few times with my two boys. It was only occasionally set up and run and is therefore in very good condition (some minor flaws). It has been stored in our closet for the last 15-20 years. I took... it out and set it up this week (late April 2019). The transformer and engine worked perfectly. I have videos of this if you are interested in seeing the train running along the track both forwards and backwards. Most of the original instructions for the components are included. Most of the boxes are missing, I have only 2 boxes, the caboose box and a track box shown in last photo. Both boxes are in poor condition. I am selling the entire set and will not sell the engine separately. I have a lot of questions on the battery compartment. It is very clean, no corrosion, see last photo. A battery was rarely used and not stored with one in the engine. The coils on either side of the battery compartment also look really good. If you need more specific photos, let me know and I can make them and post it. I am also willing to carefully pack and ship the engine unit separately, since it is considered an important piece for this set. This set features the Milwaukee Road No. 2378P and 2378C F-3 A and B Diesels with Dual Motors, Magnetraction and Horn. It includes the No. 342 Operating Culvert Loader with the No. 6342 NYC Culvert Gondola, the No. 3562-50 Painted Yellow Operating Barrel Car, the No. 3662 Operating Milk Car Set, the No. 3359 Operating Twin-Dump Ore Car, the No. 6517 Bay Window Caboose. It also has the largest Lionel transformer (Type ZW), railroad crossing gate, dual spotlight tower, radio tower, paper mâché tunnel, and a New York Central metal bridge.
