ORIGINAL 1963Strat-O-Matic Baseball season. Purchasedin 1964 – the 2nd season that Strat-O-Matic produced player cardsfor the entire league. Twenty teams, twenty cards per team. Only single sided(basic play), off white (cream), cards were produced in the early years. Player cards havebeen verified against published roster sheets. 395 of 400 original cardspresent. Have added reissued cards for the 5 missing players completing theentire set. Includes: 400 cards, gameboard/instructions,... fielding charts, pitcher hitting card, and game box (rough shape). Missing split cards (or die).1963 was the “year of the pitcher”: Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Bob Gibson, Juan Marichal, Warren Spahn, Whitey Ford, Gary Peters, Dean Chance, etc. Koufax won the pitching Triple Crown(wins, ERA, strikeouts) and was named NLMVP and Cy Young winner. Dodgers pitching dominated the Yankees in a sweepof the Series.Meanwhile, some ofthe most prolific hitters of all time were playing: Hank Aaron, EddieMathews, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda, Vada Pinson, FrankRobinson, Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, Carl Yastrzemski, Harmon Killebrew, DickStuart, etc. Pete Rose (CIN) was NL Rookie of the Year. Gary Peters (CHW)was AL Rookie of the Year. Maury Wills (LAD) and Louis Aparicio (BAL) led theirleagues in stolen bases with 40 apiece. Home Run champs: Killebrew (45), Aaron(44), and McCovey (44).
