Offered here we have a beautiful very rare WEDGWOOD, ‘NEPTUNE’, 19th CENTURY CLASSICAL FORM BASALT EWER
A wonderful example of Wedgwood craftmanship 19th century
Modelled at the neck in full relief with a seated fish tailed deity, all raised upon a fluted socle support above a square section base, height 40cm, impressed mark ‘Wedgwood’, The Neptune and Bacchus ewers for water and wine respectively appear in the Wedgwood Shape Boo...k as No 236 and in 1776 were priced at a hefty 52/6 for the pair
This ewer is in excellent overall condition, some additional paint near the base of the handle and a chip near the socle. No signs of any restoration.
