Here is a unique piece of AFL history & the crown jewel of my personal collection, an AFL Raiders game used 1966 Spalding J5-V football with Al Davis as Commissioner stamp. I don't want to sell this ball, but circumstances in my life have drastically changed; so it's time for someone else to enjoy the football.The general history about this type of 1966 AFL football is commonly known; Spalding manufactured one run of these footballs after Al Davis was voted the AFL Commissioner in ...April 1966, then Al Davis resigned in July 1966. Because the AFL already had these footballs on hand they were used throughout most of the 1966 season before the Commissioner stamp was changed.The story on this particular football, years ago I acquired the football from former AFL player Richard Lee "Dick" Compton. Dick Compton played for Detroit, Houston, and Pittsburgh. He was given the football from George Blanda in 1966. Blanda gave him the ball in part because a year prior; in the December 5, 1965 Buffalo Bills vs. Houston Oilers game; Dick Compton caught a 95 yard touchdown pass from Blanda. The longest of Blanda's career! Included with this bid is an autographed picture of Dick Compton making the 95 yard catch from Blanda, and I'll include a career stat sheet print out for Dick Compton.This football was used in the September 10, 1966 Oakland Raiders vs. Houston Oilers game, Blanda gave it to Dick Compton after this. Note, Blanda played for the Oilers in this game.The football holds its shape, I don't know if it holds air/if the bladder works. I've kept the football in the exact original condition as I acquired it and as pictured. I'm willing to provide additional pictures if necessary.
