VINTAGE ORIGINAL RARE! OFFICIAL 1932 WORLD SERIES PROGRAM NEW YORK YANKEES at CHICAGO CUBS – LAST SERIES FOR RUTH and GEHRIG TOGETHER, RUTH's LEGENDARY "CALLED SHOT" - GAME #3, 10/1/32 IN CHICAGO - BABE's LAST W.S.!!

Here's an auction for an item that witnessed perhaps the most legendary and controversial event in baseball history. This listing is for a fantastic, very rare and nice, ephemeral 1932 WORLD SERIES PROGRAM NEW YORK YANKEES at CHICAGO CUBS. Tea...ms played this one at WRIGLEY FIELD. Beautiful, colorful Art Deco cover. Program is clean and neatly pencil scored for Game 3, 10/1, and also notated as being for that game. It witnessed possibly the most fabled event in baseball history.
What happened in the top of the fifth inning of Game 3 in Chicago is the stuff of legend. The series is immortalized in many history books for just that reason. Though Ruth and Gehrig each hit a home run in the inning (in back-to-back at-bats), it is Ruth’s hit that is the better known. Ruth supposedly predicted his home run by pointing to the stands prior to a pitch. While it has been confirmed that he pointed somewhere during the at-bat, there has been much debate as to whether Ruth actually "called" the home run, as there is a lack of solid evidence proving exactly where he was pointing.
On the next pitch, he hit a "Ruthian" home run to deep center field, past the flagpole and into the temporary seating in the streets, the flight of the ball estimated at nearly 500 feet. Both Babe and Lou Gehrig hit two homers en route to a Yankees 7-5 win before 49, 986, George Pipgras over Charlie Root.
The outmanned Cubs were swept by the powerful Yankees who finished at 107-45, 13 games ahead of a fine Philadelphia A’s club itself loaded with future HOFers. This was a memorable series since it was the last for Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig as teammates. Ruth swatted 2 homers, batting .333 while Gehrig hammered 3 homers batting a heavy .529, setting a 4 Game Series record with 9 hits and 8 RBI.
For the Series the Yankees batted .313 as a team and battered the hapless Cubs 37-19 in their third consecutive Series 4-0 sweep (1927, 1928, 1932).
