This ball bears MLB Authentication hologram BB503166, which is Authenticated in MLB’s database as Gordon’s ground out to first base.
This was Gordon’s fourth official appearance. He struck out in his first two at-bats, then was hit by a pitch. Then in the seventh inning Gordon stepped in agai...nst Red Sox rookie Hideki Okajima and grounded out to first baseman Kevin Youkilis, making this his first batted ball out into play.
I’ve tried to find video of the game online but could not locate it. What’s also intriguing here is that Gordon was the third batter of the inning and this ball also could have been used for Okajima’s second career strikeout as well as Mike Sweeney’s single in the at-bat before Gordon grounded out.MLB Authentication has come a long way since 2007, so the details weren’t as intricate a decade ago. Although there is no video to support this, the ball also could have been used to strike out Mark Teahen, then used for three pitches to Mike Sweeney, and then the two pitches to Gordon, the last of which he grounded to Youkilis. No balls were struck from play, so unless they were removed from play at the request of the umpire, pitcher or position player, this ball could have been used for these listed at-bats. It’s worth noting the ball shows significant use.
In addition, this ball is also signed by 2006 NL MVP Ryan Howard who reportedly (according to the former owner) signed this on June 9, 2007, when the Phillies visited KC for an Interleague matchup. A ticket stub from that game is included. This is a fairly unique piece given all the context. Winner pays $15 shipping for the ball in the pictures cube and priority mail shipping with tracking and signature confirmation to protect the buyer and seller.
