My dad purchased this beautiful box for me 50 years ago on the island of Okinawa, from an artisan who had a shop on a small street. I believe we were in Naha, the capital of Okinawa. I remember stepping into the shop and breathing in the smell of wood and lacquer, and admiring the craftsman who carved these scenes by hand with great skill. This jewelry box is fairly large--13 x 9 x 9 1/2 inches.
