About this Listing:This listing is for a MOS MCS6508 microprocessor. The 6508 is a follow-on version of the MOS 6502. The 6508 added an I/O port and 256 bytes of on chip RAM to the 8-bit 6502 architecture. This 6508 is in excellent condition (see pictures). The purple ceramic body, gold leads and tin lid is a very unusual package type for the 6508. Introduced in 1975, the 6502 processor was MOS’ first successful product. Although influenced by the design philosophy of the 6800, the 6502 is clearly a different and more advanced chip design. More important to its success though, the 6502 was designed as part of a whole family of 6500 series processors. The 6502 was the heart of several early microcomputers and game systems. Commodore, Apple, and Atari were among the 6502 designs. Apple designer, Steve Wozniak, described it as the first chip you could get for less than a hundred dollars (a quarter of the 6800 price).
