Original Description:
Macintosh SE 800k Serviced/ Upgraded/ Restored OS 7.1/ 4MB RAM/SCSI2SD V5.1 with 2GB Sandisk card. This Mac has been completely disassembled and the shell has been cleaned and rejuvenated using the 8 Bit Guy’s Retro Brite Technique. It has 4MB of Ram. Note: left clip on Ram Dimm 2 two has broken off, however the ram is secure and seated without issue. The hard drive was replaced with a SCSI2SD Drive version 5.1. The drive contains a 2gb Sandisk card running OS 7.1. The card has been ...partitioned into three 500MB drives. Consisting of a Main OS Drive, as well as Drives A & B. Drive A is loaded with games. Drive B is loaded with additional software and Utilities. The SCSI2SD did not come with the LED power input, so the LED light is not hooked up. I believe they sell the part on their website and would be an easy add on for the new user if need be. The Led bulb and wiring are safely secured with a small tab of electrical tape, in their place. Since the 5.1 version only had two mounting points I secured/cushioned the drive with a block of high density foam. It is snug and secure riding in the original hard drive bay (see photos). The original 800k disk drive wasn’t working so I swapped it out with a 1.4mb Drive that has been disassembled, cleaned, heads cleaned using professional head cleaner and rails/ guides have been re-lubricated. I am not certain, but I believe since this SE was originally shipped with 800k drive/drives the architecture was designed to read 800k and 400k disks not 1.4MB. I couldn’t find any information online to say either way, but what I do know is, it has been tested with an 800k boot disc and it reads and boots from it without issue. In addition I used my floppy emu to transfer info and it would read all the 800k and 400k information, so I am confident that the board is in good working order. It would not read 1.4MB disks, but that same drive read them on my other compact Mac just fine, so I know the drive itself is in good working order as well. The OEM soldered/permanent battery has been swapped with a removable battery socket and it has a brand new 3.6v startup battery. I will include in the sale a spare SE parts board. It is currently not booting but may be repaired or have usable parts. Last time I tried it, it gave me the sad Mac icon. I believe it has a bad VRAM chip. This is the later SE model that shipped with the 1.4mb “SuperDrive”. If you were able to repair this board you could swap it out so the 1.4mb disk drive could be fully utilized. The outer shell of the Mac is presentable and clean. Cosmetically there is only one main blemish area. It is on the right center side of the unit near the picture tube. It seems to have been scraped or chipped at some point. Some of it was repaired and a partial scrape still remains. The repair was pretty good and isn’t too distracting. Please see photo for more detail. The rubber feet on the bottom are all in tact and in good shape as well. The keyboard and mouse have been disassembled and cleaned thoroughly inside and out. They have not been retro brited, but are in very clean presentable condition. Their are a couple small scuffs on the keyboard keys, but not bad at all. See photos for more details. The screen is bright and crisp. The CRT has minimal screen burn which is hardly noticeable when off, and is even less noticeable when on. Please Note: The image roll seen in the photos is due to the camera not syncing with the refresh of the CRT, there is nothing wrong with the image or CRT. I have ran this unit for several hours testing the games and applications. It is snappy and responsive. Overall I would say this is a good solid unit to add to an existing collection, or for someone who is just getting into vintage computing. I have many more pictures but couldn’t upload all of them. If anyone has any questions or would like more photos, please let me know.Auction Items Included:-Mac SE complete with SCSI2SD (2GB Sandisk) & 4MB Ram-Apple Keyboard II & Coil cable-Apple Mouse-SE power cable-Spare Mac SE Board for parts or repairThe Mac will be double boxed.
