Vintage Antique SOLID Walnut Wood Wooden Drop Leaf Gate Leg Gateleg Dining Table
Item History & Price
Elegant, vintage table made by, "Pennwood" sometime during the 1960's. The table is made of solid walnut, and has 2 hinged sides (leaves), which could be propped up and kept in place by 2 lateral-swinging gatelegs. The leaves have rounded corners and the side pedestals have a lovely design accented with a thin, inlaid, yellow-colored veneer and carved, "bullseye" motif underneath. All of t...he feet, including the 2 gatelegs, have brass caps. We acquired the table from an upscale apartment building in downtown Boston (see last photo). The lady who lived there moved into a smaller, less expensive condo and didn't need to take all of her belongings. As you could see from the photo, she kept it uncovered by the window for many years. As a result, the sun faded the finish around the objects that were placed on it. Unless you're planning on covering it or you just don't mind the uneven finish & odd marks; the top will need to be refinished or painted. The former owner was the only owner and she took good care of it; it's in great structural condition. Expect the tiny nicks and light scratches which are commonly found on old, used furniture; but there are no breaks, cracks, chips, dents, or gouges. The leaves open and close with ease, and the hinges are tightly fastened. The gatelegs also swing smoothly, without any jiggle or play. Our carpenter examined the table all over and found no repairs to make nor anything to reinforce. The table is strong, sturdy, and ready for a lifetime of service!
