Vtg Burke & James B&J 8x10 VIEW CAMERA W/ Xtra Backs, Extn Track FILM
Item History & Price
Wanna be Mr. Big Shot in your neighborhood? Buy this BURKE & JAMES 8”X10” VIEW CAMERA, and its BOATLOAD O’ ACCESSORIES right now! It’s a rare neighborhood that has anyone shoot...ing bigger than 8x10. Burke & James, now defunct, operated out of Chicago for many years, selling all manner of photo gear. Their 8x10 (which seems to be nameless, from the company that gave us the Orbit, the Saturn, and the Watson) was and is the Chevy pickup of 8x10s: reliable, versatile, designed to last. This one comes with the bed extension, that gives you 30” of bellows draw for those loooong lenses; the sliding tripod block that is meant to help mounting on those loooong lenses (in practice, it doesn’t do much, and this one has some thread damage and needs retapping); split backs for both 4x5 and 5x7 that should be convertible to full frame, and 1 lens board drilled for a 14” Kodak Commercial Ektar (the flange is shown but NOT INCLUDED IN SALE— sorry, I forgot to take it off when I shot the photos). The fiery red bellows are LIGHT TIGHT (tested with film). The batleship gray paint is hardly pristine but not too horrible, and there’s some tape residue here and there. If I did more studio work I’d keep this, but I have to hoof my 8x10’s and this one is about 15 pounds with a lens and no extension track and big-- besides which I’m old, so I need to go lighter. Except for the aforementioned sliding tripod block threads, everything seems to work decently— it all racks and locks the way it should and takes nice pics. Some young whippersnapper or someone with more of a studio bias will love this. Low start of THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY NINE DAMN U.S. DOLLARS, with shipping a flat SEVENTY FIVE BUCKS in the CONUS (the box is a big cube and weighs damn near 26 pounds— the shipping charge is not where I’m trying to make my money).
THE FINE PRINT: NO RETURNS. Description is as thorough as I can make it and take it (take photos, that is). NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING; eBay GSP takes forever to even give a quote, land no good has come from me trying to figure it out myself. Your use or non-use of sketchy dropbox re-shippers is your business. Payment is due in 48 hours, or sale will be cancelled and item relisted. On Feb-16-21 at 17:54:04 PST, seller added the following information:ADDED 02/16/2021: I get some good questions on items, I answer them, hit "add to item FAQ so everyone can see", then I never see my answer. So, to be clear, the camera INCLUDES the lens board. It WILL NOT include the black ring in the center of the lens board-- that's the flange for the 14" Ektar lens that I'm keeping. Hope this helps.
