nd made in Savannah, Georgia some 30-35 years ago, this piece is not an antique, but was made in a style reflective of carpenters more used to ‘raising’ barns than making furniture. Built as much for art as function, pieces like this were often made from scrap wood and carved with rough shaping tools rather than the fine tools a craftsman would employ. No nails or screws, just pegs and dowels.
Unusually large for a chair, this one is made entirely of pine, though the dark finish... and abundant knots make it look more like oak. There is termite damage in one leg and several corners have been chewed. There are scratches and nicks as well. For the sake of authenticity, no repairs have been made. Piece is otherwise quite sturdy and heavy, with minimal flex typical of aging joinery. Some wood putty and sealer or paint, and she’ll be rock solid again.
Size is 6 feet and 11 inches tall; 30 inches wide; 25 inches deep. There is no upholstery, the cushions are just there for comfort. Use your own to match your decor or you can have these (though God knows why, since they’re tatty andu almost as old as the chair).
