This is an Historical California item...It is an Antique FULL SIZE circa 1922 Governor of California William D. Stephens ( marked ) Shreve Sterling Silver Mounted Plaque Groundbreaking Shovel used by the governor at the March 24th , 1922 Sacramento State Building Groundbreaking ceremony and presented to him by the city of Sacramento...Included is an 8 x 10 photo sent to me by the Sacramento historical society showing the governor holding this actual shovel at that event…The shovel me...asures 38 inches long with a silver plated spade head that has the 7 1/2 Inch Long marked Shreve STERLING Silver engraved plaque mounted to the shovel face…There was also once a crest up by the handle and you can see where it was mounted ( see close up ), and you can see it in the photo , but it is now missing.The Silver plate on the shovel has wear and in the photo with the governor when new it reflected light considerably , but when you look close you can see the outline of the plaque on the shovel in the photo especially when viewing in person.Overall truly a one-of-a-kind unique and historic California item… Buyer pays shipping.
