ANCIENT ANDARA CARVING MONATOMIC PRIMA MATRA GLASS ARTIFACT NON - HUMAN ANCESTOR 5
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:50903937 |
This is an ancient prima matra glass carving from Inner Mongolia, and is estimated to be between 6700 and 4900 years old. Prima matra glass is also known as Andara. I am writing a book about this material, and one of the first notes I made more than 3 years ago was that if it is indeed a natural material, then ancient artifacts and carvings made from it must surely exist. Well, I... am happy to report that they do, and this is one of them. I have collected both ancient and period carvings and rough pieces from several locations around the world over the last few years. During my research, I learned that this material was regarded as an imperial national treasure in China until the 1700's. It is nearly impervious to long-term weathering, and is as hard to cut/carve as jade according to ancient monastic writings and temple documents. This piece is 3.25 inches tall and weighs 67 grams, and depicts a non-human ancestor or visitor. There are suspension holes in the back of the piece for wearing or hanging.
