This stunning Navajo Indian made Rug / Wall hanging is of a well known style " STORM PATTERN " This style is often associated with the Western Reservation and indeed this rug was part of a collection in a Washington state museum when it sold and does retain it's museum tag. The Storm pattern is not built around a central diamond but is a very recognizable geometric composition with a strong often rectangular central element connected by diagonal stepped lines to elem...ents in each of the four corners. The design is said to be highly symbolic and associated with the all important rainsorms in the growing season. Individual components include representations of the Navajo's four sacred mountains, Lightning Bolts, Snowflakes and waterbugs. This expertly woven piece measures 17 " x 19 1/2 " and has is in deep bold vibrant shades of Browns, Black Tan and creamy white. All corner tassels and selvage are intact. There is one spot on one side, barely noticeable in picture # 10 and a smudgy 1 " spot on other side of rug as seen in pic. # 11. I did not try to clean or remove spots and will leave that to the new owner of this very fine piece.
