VINTAGE Stanley USA No. 3 Smooth Plane - EXTRA FINE CONDITION !!Near new and in the original box! "Type 16" (1933-1941) with the backside of the blade stamped "438" dating it more specifically to April 1938. A scaled down, lighter version of Stanley's work horse No. 4 smooth plane, the No. 3 has long been a favorite of skilled craftsmen for its ease of use and maneuverability. It was discontinued in the USA in 1964.This example shows absolutely no ...use and only minimal shelf wear with no rusting or pitting and very little staining. The finishes are near 100% intact and there is almost no dinging or scratching in the wood. The near full length blade has been sharpened. Otherwise the plane is just as it came from New Britain many many years ago! The box is all there but quite tattered and torn (last photo). While it has done a good job of protecting the plane over all of these years and is somewhat restorable, it adds little to the value of the plane as it now sits.Ready to go to work!!
