The sword is a Shinshinto tantoca. 1800s and is in high quality samurai mounts. The blade and the mountingsare in Near MINT condition.The sword features a shobu-zukuriconstruction. It has a blade length of 7.5 inches (19 cm). The hada is a well-grainedand highly visible itame. The hamonis a Bizen-style gunome midare. Thehamon is present the length of the blade through the kissaki where it ends in amaru boshi with a little hakikake. The tang is mumei, or unsigned. Based on the shapeand workmanship, the sword looks to be from a school like the Hosokawaschool which was active in the 1800s and worked in a variety of styles.The blade comes in original high-quality Samurai mountings. They are in Near MINT condition. Thetsuka features a ribbed design blended with a same wrap in the middle. Thetanto is mounted aikuchi style without a tsuba. The saya is a high-quality custom lacquersaya with a textured ribbing sprinkled with nashiji. The saya also mixes in a samewrapping, including a same kojiri. It is in MINTY condition, showing very little wear and retaining roughly 98-99% original finish. The blade is in Near MINT condition. There are no nicks, little to no rust, and few scratches along the blade’s length. There are no major flaws likehagire.Given the age, workmanship, exceptional high quality mounts, and top condition, I highly recommend this tanto for a collector of Japanese swords or WWIImilitaria.Terms and additional items: This item is original and not aknockoff or fake.
