Antique Chinese Golden Silk Dragon Panel 19th Century 1800s. Panel 10 x13, 13 x 16 inches including surrounding dark border. These are complete panels. i think the first border was original to the panel, which would have been affixed to a royal or palace garment, probably a sleeveless robe or skirt. The secondary border, i think, may have been added when the royal garment was removed and sold off following the fall of the Qing Dynasty. The first photo shows a lot of contra...st because it was taken in afternoon sun; it was not tweKed or digitally modified. Rhe last two photos were in dim, indirect lighting. These gold-wrapped threads are couched in place with almost invisibly thin silk threads, and some released lengths of thread are expected in original pieces. The condition of this textile is quite good. Usually, the threads are re-affixed or "given a trim" before offered for sale. The threads generally want to resume the position they held for more than a century, when you guide them to their logical position; if you want to restore that, i could offer a few tips but honestly, it displays well as it stands. the original lining is itself a beautiful old damask, with some signs of wear, including staining.
