Koster for Governor, 1968 Alabama Democrat Party Election, 5-1/2 x 8-1/2. There are 3 different handbills included in this item. They are all for the democrat party nomination for Governor of Alabama. He was one of several unknowns that were candidates in this election. The democrat party had 13 candidates for Governor in this election. There were some heavyweights, including Fob James, Bill Baxley, Albert Brewer, Jere Beasley, and former Governor, Big Jim... Folsom. However, the real heavyweight in this election was former Governor, George Wallace's 2nd wife, Cornelia Wallace, who he married after the death of former Governor, Lurleen Wallace. Cornelia Wallace finished last among the 13 candidates, receiving only 217 votes, statewide! Former Governor, James "Big Jim" Folsom finished 8th, and perennial candidate Ralph "Shorty" Price, finished 10th. Fob James finished first, defeated Bill Baxley in the demacrat runoff election, and then won the Governor's race. F. C. Koster actually finished 6th in the 13 person democrat primary race. He received 4, 948 votes statewide, or about 1/2 of 1 percent of the total votes cast. Considering that he was an unknown in the race, he did extremely well, finishing ahead of former Governor Jim Folsom, Shorty Price, Charles Woods, and Cornelia Wallace. You will rarely see one of these paper posters from the Koster campaign, since he ran on a shoestring budget, and was limited in the amout of time and resources he had to compaign. These were normally stapeled to utility poles thorughout the states, and over a short period of time, they basically disintegrated. Koster was a preacher, and also owned a radiator shop in Fayette, AL. RARE!!!! MAKE AN OFFER
