Angela Davis (1944 - Present) In 1969, Davis was known as a radical feminist and senior leader of the Los Angeles chapter of the Black Panther Party. She was charged in 1970 with the attempted prison escape of George Jackson, the leader of the Bla...ck Guerrilla Family, which was a subset prison organization of the Panthers. Upon her capture President Nixon labeled her a dangerous terrorist and demanded her life long incarceration. However, she was acquitted at trial and would go on to play a pivotal role in the civil rights movement. She is considered by many to be among the most important Black feminist leaders in American history.
